Devex 2021 Organisers

The DEVEX 2015 Young Professionals’ Event will take place on Thursday 21st May during the main DEVEX conference – exact timings are to be confirmed but the event will take place over lunchtime.
The aim of the DEVEX 2015 Young Professionals’ event is to investigate the question: How should Young Professionals Cope During a Reduced Oil Price? A panel of leading industry, education and recruitment professionals with experience on the impact of low oil price on employment in the oil and gas industry, will answer your questions and give their views on opportunities that are created during such downturns or how to come through stronger following redundancies.
“A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty.”
― Winston S. Churchill
As a young professional embarking on a career in the Oil and Gas industry, you may have questions such as:
The session will highlight that there are challenges to be faced during a period of reduced oil price; however with shared experiences from our diverse panel members we will hear that opportunities can also arise during difficult times.
Speakers confirmed to date are:
Attendance is free of charge for DEVEX 2015 attendees. For those not registered for DEVEX costs are (including lunch):
The DEVEX 2015 Field Trip will take place on Friday 22nd May 2015 from 8am to approximately 5pm.
The cost for the excursion including transport is:
Please note lunch and dinner are at the delegates own expense.
From Schoolhill the trip will visit the Iron Mountain Core Store to view and discuss a range of cores and facies types from the Clair Field reservoir (Devonian Old Red Sandstone), west of Shetland. Particular emphasis will be placed on what can be observed and inferred from horizontal core, of which Clair has a range. Following the core store visit, delegates will travel by coach to Arbroath.
Superbly exposed cliff and foreshore sections along the coastal path running NE of Arbroath allow sedimentological, stratigraphic and structural features of the Devonian Old Red Sandstone to be examined. Unconformable and faulted relationships between the Lower ORS and Upper ORS are evident. A wide range of sedimentological textures and structures can be seen, dominantly fluvial but arguably with other non-marine facies too. A variety of fractures and faults are also well developed.
The small scale variability of the ORS sedimentology and the development of faults and fractures will doubtless catalyse consideration of subsurface issues in Devonian reservoired fields such as Clair and in other ORS reservoir targets, and link back to the cores seen earlier in the day. Discussions of scales, of lateral and vertical trends, of matrix and fracture system flow characteristics and interaction, and of modelling approaches are all likely to develop.
The trip will be led by Doug Boyd, a consulting sedimentologist with Integrated Sedimentology Ltd which he set up in 2003 after ~20 years in a wide range of sedimentological roles in BP. Doug has been closely involved with Clair appraisal since 2006.

DEVEX Field Trip DetailsThe Young Professionals Site Visit to Schlumberger Logging Tools will take place from 09:45 – 15:30 on Friday 22nd May 2015 at the Schlumberger site in Dyce. Delegate are required to make their own way to the event.
The aim of the visit is to connect Geoscientists who analyse wireline, geochemical, borehole imaging and pressure data with the tools that are placed down the wellbore to extract this data.
The site visit is particularly directed towards Young Professionals who are unfamiliar with wireline tools and would appreciate seeing the context of how measurements are obtained and how a wireline tool string is configured.
The site visit will begin with a series of morning lectures providing a background on the tools. A buffet lunch at the Schlumberger facility will be included, followed by a tour of the wireline shop visit in the afternoon to see the tools up close and demonstrations.
The tour of the wireline shop will be as follows:
The cost for the site visit is £20 + VAT per person. Capacity is limited so early booking is encouraged to avoid disappointment.
